    • Fish oil, at a dose of 10 grams daily can be beneficial. This is a very high dose and you should consult your doctor about this treatment especially if you take blood-thinning medication, including aspirin.

      Certain vitamins and minerals can ease inflammation and prevent flare-ups; they include folate (400 mcg daily), vitamin E (400 to 800 IU), zinc (30 mg daily) and selenium (200 mcg daily).

    Herbal Therapy

    • Milk thistle encourages proper immune function, which plays a role in conditions like psoriasis. Take 150 mg twice a day. Yellow dock, red clover and burdock, when used in combination, are a traditional treatment for this skin condition. Use 30 drops of each tincture in a cup of water three times a day. You might also be able to find a combination supplement with all three; use as directed on the label. Coleus forskohlii is another treatment for psoriasis with a long history of use; take 500 to 2,500 mg daily. Oregano oil might also be of benefit for psoriasis; take 20 to 60 drops twice a day in water or juice.

      The following treatments can be applied topically to relieve symptoms. They include aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, evening primrose oil, oatmeal baths, tea tree oil and Oregon grape root. These are all mild treatments that can be used as desired.

      Apis mellifica treats psoriasis that feels hot and dry and very sensitive to the touch. It might feel better with cool applications and worse with heat. It is best if you often feel sad, disappointed, depressed and cry easily.

      Calendula, in the form of ointment or cream, is excellent for treating inflammation and has a long history of use in soothing skin disorders. Rhus toxicodendron works best if the accompanying itching gets worse at night and improves with heat.
