What Are You Buying This Valentine"s Day?
While Valentine's Day ranks third among florists' sales by holidays (behind Mother's Day and Christmas), it still accounts for over 20% of total annual sales.
This is easily verified by the fact that those surveyed report buying fresh cut flowers for their sweetheart than any other gift (36%) far and away above the second leading gift of chocolates.
Surprisingly mixed flowers beat the traditional red roses as the purchased gift on this, the most sweetest of days (44% to 43% respectively).
However, when red roses are combined with all colored roses, roses handedly beats out mixed flowers (72% TO 44% respectively).
Not surprising, men do more of the flower purchasing for their spouse than wives for their husbands (57% to 32%).
Of all results, in 2010 25% of adults surveyed purchased flowers or live plants for their loved one.
Men represented 60% of these sales while 40% were made by women.
All things being equal, Valentine's Day is a wonderful occasion to show your love for that special someone either untraditionally or traditionally.
Of course, we're not even mentioning the wild and completely untraditional (lingerie did not make the list).
Perhaps some unfortunate ladies, their spouses/boyfriends might have thought that dinner at a fancy restaurant (where their chivalrous gents actually carry their tray for them) would suffice.
We offer the following suggestion: gentlemen, pony up the cash and show your love for your loved one.
