With wine-sipping, Christian Louboutin wearing socialites from here to Halifax gathering in their girly throngs to witness the second sequel to the Sex and the City film series, it was expected for the UK's cinema aisles to go wild. Sadly, the somewhat uncomplimentary reviews are making the glossy NY independent chick flick about as attractive a Jimmy Choo in a doggy doo-doo.

Carrie and the girls are going to have to pull more out of their Balenciaga handbags than just another performance, with so many hopes resting on a neat conclusion to the smash-hit series. IMDB jhave given it only 3.7 out of ten according to 8,841 votes, a dismal review sure to give Sarah Jessica Parker an even longer face!

With character appearances from gay sidekicks Stanford Blatch and Anthony Marantino and the ever OTT Liza Minnelli, there is no doubt some witty, super-camp dialogue. Not forgetting NY stylist supreme Patricia Field turning her wacky redhead to brainstorming some of the most glamorous high-fashion get ups since her spin as designer for The Devil Wears Prada.

With the girls plucked out of their Manhattan executive suites and swept off to the Arabian deserts on a whirlwind adventure, it was expected that things would heat up. Unfortunately, the film lost out to less glamorous stars, with the cast of Shrek Forever After stealing their limelight with a top American box office taking of $55.6m in comparison to SATC 2's 37.1 million.

Does this mean that the long-running and much-loved sequel favoured by ladies' nights in the world over is losing its charm? It's hard to imagine a film sequel not coming under such rigorous scrutiny and millions of self-assured women are hardly going to be a pushover. With sassy scripts comes shrewd viewers, most of whom are unlikely to be swayed by killer couture over slick storylines. Contrary to popular belief, it takes more than just designer heels to impress us girls.
