The Hollywood Reporter broke the news a new Lara Croft movie is being talked about at Warner Bros now that they possess the film rights to the popular video game character. Apparently Warner Bros and producer Dan Lin are looking to revamp the franchise, which it sounds to me means the third film of the franchise will be moving forward without Angelina Jolie in the title role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, WB intends to go a new direction with their untitled Lara Croft film project.

The studio obtained the rights to make a Lara Croft movie when they bought up 19.92% of Eidos, the company that created Lara Croft, last year.

The first Lara Croft film, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, was released in 2001 and starred Jolie as a tomb raider with incredible physical skills who must face off against a powerful secret organization that wants to control time. Back in 2001, Tomb Raider's opening weekend of $47.7 million was the biggest opening weekend of any film with a female star.

Paramount followed up that successful film withh Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life which hit theaters in 2003 and found Jolie on a mission to save Pandora's box.

There's no word yet on who will direct the third Lara Croft movie or what actress will take on the title role.
