    Ohio Arts Council

    • The Ohio Arts Council offers grants to both individual artists and community arts programs and events. Artists in various fields and disciplines may apply for the competitive Individual Excellence award, which seeks to provide funds for exception artists and allow them to "experiment, explore and reflect as they develop their skills and advance their art form." The Project Support grants funds to community and nonprofit organizations for one-time events as well as endeavors that aid the economy and attract cultural tourists.

    Ohio Historical Markers Grants Program

    • Administered by the Ohio Historical Society, the Ohio Historical Markers Grants Program provide funds for municipalities and nonprofit organizations pay for historical markers. As of 2011, grants of $750 per community or organization help defray the cost of these markers, which range from $2,000 to $2,250. Applications for markers featuring events or figures with national and state significance receive priority over those honoring more local topics. Counties with relatively few such markers receive priority over those with large numbers of historical signs.

    Ohio College Opportunity Grant

    • Overseen by the Ohio Board of Regents, the needs-based Ohio College Opportunity Grant allows eligible state student to pursue college or nursing school degrees at certain schools. Both public and private schools participate in the grant program. The student's family must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before applying for the grant. Maximum household income for grant consideration in 2011 is $75,000.

    NatureWorks

    • Local government may apply to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for NatureWorks grants, which provides funding for the purchase, development or improvements of recreational lands. The program reimburses local government entities for as much as 75 percent of costs associated with eligible recreational areas. All properties receiving NatureWorks grants must be used for outdoor public recreation. Applicants must send competitive bid packages for proposed projects to the DNR, and the agency may conduct site visits at any time when work is ongoing.
