Curtain Swags to Decorate Bath & Shower Enclosures

Scarf swags are created by attaching a small loop above each side of the bathtub. A long, single piece of fabric is threaded through the two loops so that the fabric drapes in the center and hangs down each side. When the fabric is thin and transparent, this swag treatment is called a swagged scarf. When the fabric is more substantial it becomes a large, single swag. A swag hung in this way is usually meant to hide the drapery rods at the top of the shower. - Fabric that can be draped elegantly along a fixed rod to hide shower rodspink fabric image by Melissa Schalke from Fotolia.com
A more intricate double, triple or more complicated swag can be created by draping the swag fabric over a rod mounted in front of the functional rods. This rod is used to hold the fabric in a fixed position. The fabric is carefully draped to create an attractive flow of draped swags across the rod. Sometimes it is necessary to assist the swags in holding their shape by using hidden safety pins from the back side. - A single swag being restrained by a tassle tie-back.luxury curtain image by Andrejs Pidjass from Fotolia.com
Shower and bath curtains are also sold as swags. These are not the decorative swags that hide the drapery hardware. This type of swag is simply a shower curtain that is designed to be drawn to one side and restrained by a curtain tieback, restraint arm or post. This type of swag may include a fixed valance that is attached to the rod by a rod pocket and attached to the swagged curtain. The double swag-style shower and bath curtains are two fixed curtains swagged to each side. The curtains may be attached together at the rod or be separated and accompanied by a valance panel. Both curtains are purely decorative and used to create a sense on intimacy and privacy in the bathing area. These curtains require a full lining curtain to protect them from moisture.
