'Soma' is a brand name for the drug Carisoprodol.
Likewise, 'Vanadom' and 'CariSoma' are also brands of the same drug.
Carisoprodol, in turn, is a muscle relaxant that doubles as a pain killer.
In fact, it is not only one of the most powerful muscle relaxants in the market, but it is also one of the most prescribed.
It is available over-the-counter in drugstores and in on-line pharmaceuticals.
The reason why many pharmaceuticals are releasing generic medicine is to bring market prices down.
This is especially true with carisoprodol, which compared with non-generic brands, is enjoying sales per tablet that is less 25% to 75% in price.
carisoprodol, as a muscle relaxant is a misnomer.
It does not technically relax human muscles upon ingestion.
This drug actually 'helps' the afflicted muscles by blocking the human brain's pain receptors.
Once the pain is temporarily dulled, skeletal muscles tend to relax, thereby releasing the stiffness from the joints and the contractions from the afflicted areas.
This gives muscles the respite they need to heal faster, and relives the sufferer from more undue pain.
That is also the reason why, when health professional prescribe this drug, rest is also part of the equation.
How is Soma taken? As should be, any medication must be taken upon the advice of your doctor.
If your doctor has given you Soma for your pains, follow the medication he prescribes.
