Gerard Butler May Star in a Remake of "Escape from New York"
Hot off his starring turn in the epic drama 300, Scottish actor Gerard Butler may take the starring role in an Escape from New York remake. According to Variety, CAA is shopping an Escape from New York package around that includes Butler taking over Kurt Russell's role from the original film and has Neal Moritz set to produce. Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) is set to write the script.
John Carpenter wrote and directed the original Escape from New York which starred Kurt Russell in one of his most memorable roles.
Russell played Snake Plissken, a convicted bank robber who must free the President from a maximum security prison where he's been taken by terrorists.
Variety reports multiple studios are very interested in the project, and Escape from New York could be one Butler's next films. The handsome actor will next be seen in P S I Love You, a romantic film with Hilary Swank, and Butterfly on a Wheel opposite Pierce Brosnan.
