Start Motivating and Stop Contemplating
There is a big difference between talking about implementing a motivational program in your company, non-profit group, or government agency; and actually doing it.
We have a slight problem with organizational psychologists and team building coaches, when they put far too much touchy-feely personality games into the motivating of teams.
Not everyone needs to be congratulated in advance, have their egos stroked, told they are great for merely breathing the air, or getting respect for something that they may do the future.
All too often, organizers of groups that need a little motivation spend far too much time strategizing, and figuring out little games and icebreaker activities they can do to help motivate.
There comes a time, when it is time to stop all the contemplating and start doing the actual motivation.
Not everyone is motivated in the same way and one of the big problems we have right now is that baby boomers are motivated differently than X'ers.
That is to say, the baby boomers "just want to get the show on the road," and "get on with the program," while the X'ers want to work together in collaboration, and enjoy all the touchy-feely games.
For true winners in your group, and those that are into achieving, you'd be surprised that they could care less about all the cheesy games that are being forced upon them.
It's a real put off.
In fact they like to lead by example and they are already motivated, and you are actually de-motivating them with all this nonsense.
Unfortunately all these organizational psychologists and teambuilding coaches see it as non-social behavior, but it's not, they just don't want to go along with all the fakery, and school kid motivation manipulation, quite frankly they see it all for what it's worth.
Please consider all this.
