Homecoming Hairstyles for Girls

    • Homecoming is a yearly tradition at many high schools, colleges and universities, usually in the fall. This is a time when alumni are welcomed back for a weekend of festivities. To decide on an appropriate hairstyle, young women should review the homecoming invitation and decide which activities to attend. If you are simply going to a football game, a casual hairstyle is in order. However, if you are going to a banquet or a reception, you may choose a more formal hairstyle.

    Short Hair

    • Many celebrities appear with short hairstyles to make a dramatic statement. If you have short hair, the cut is the most important part of the presentation. From traditional sleek and smooth hairstyles with bangs to "boy cuts" emphasizing eyes and lips, the choice is yours. For a trendy look, try a choppy, "messy" hairdo with side swept bangs. Once you decide on a hairdo, use a product that will keep your hair in place for the homecoming weekend, such as anti-frizzing gel or a hair mousse for volume.

    Long Hair

    • For long, straight hair, a layered razor cut frames the face and is appropriate for many different facial shapes. A razor cut allows for a sleek hairstyle with uneven ends, typically shorter to the jaw line and gradually lengthening to the shoulders and beyond. For women with wavy or naturally curly hair, a long style with lightly swept bangs creates an alluring look. Of course, straight hair can achieve a wave or curl with an expertly applied permanent product. For a temporary look of longer hair, try hair extensions that are becoming more popular and affordable. Extensions add volume as well as length for a full, long look. For a more formal appearance, replace your flowing daytime hairdo with a classic "updo" at night. Conditioners are a must for longer hair to keep the hair looking smooth and silky.

    Braids

    • For the fashion-conscious, braids can mix it up for a romantic, yet easily changed look. A take-off on the little girl braids, these very grown-up hairstyles add glamor to both an "updo" and long style. A single braid added to voluminous hair styles gives an updated, interesting look. The braid can frame the face, start at the part near the hairline and surround the head like a crown, or come from the nape of the neck for a casual, almost "hippie" flair. For a more formal look, a total French braided style is in order.
