Tips for Wearing Hair Jewelry

    Don't Overdo It

    • Hair jewelry is jewelry and it should not be overdone. Do not use too many pieces of hair jewelry, especially contrasting pieces. If you choose to wear hair jewelry, forgo other types of jewelry, especially jewelry that is clustered close to the head where it would be most noticeable with the hair jewelry. Extravagant earrings and necklaces should most definitely be avoided when wearing hair jewelry. In some instances a small, simple pair of earrings or a simple necklace can be worn, but never both.

    Wear Close to the Crown

    • Wear hair jewelry close to the crown of your head rather than low in loose-hanging locks. Hair jewelry maintains a better grip in this position and is much less likely to become loose or fall from your hair resulting in distorted hair jewelry or lost jewelry. Hair jewelry worn higher on the head is much more noticeable and striking. It directs the eye towards the top of your head and into your face and is much more attention getting.

    Transitions

    • In addition to accessorizing your hair, hair jewelry helps with transitions as well. Use hair jewelry to help you get through an awkward hair transition, such as growing out bangs. Pull hair straight back from the head and pin it in place with a decorative barrette, headband or other hairpin. Also, use hair jewelry to easily transition from a practical daytime work look to a glamorous evening nighttime look. With the proper hairpiece, you can elevate a simple outfit to an elegant evening outfit.
