Meditation is all about focus and concentration along with methodical breathing exercises. Meditation is probably one of the best ways to attain peace and tranquility in mind, body and soul. But it is not an easy job and cannot be attained or mastered overnight. In fact, people take weeks or months to get to a stage where they can sit in a place and focus properly - without letting their mind adrift. In such a situation, where it beginners find it difficult to concentrate or focus, studies have shown that music in the background helps immensely.

Well, it may sound a little weird but it is a fact. Appropriate music always helps in calming your frayed nerves, relaxing your body muscles and helps you focus better - so music in the background while trying to meditate may be a great idea for you!

Meditation Tactics

Firstly, know what kind of music will help you because not everyone will be effective. Ask yourself the question of which music you like the best? Which music may calm you down? If you like a particular kind of song too much then it may distract you. The main purpose is to focus on meditation and not just on music.
Please try on different music - classical, jazz, instrumental etc. may fascinate you. Try few songs and see what brings you peace and might help you focus and concentrate in a much better way

Make sure the music is not very loud or else it can distract you and the whole purpose will be lost

It is said that usually instrumental music helps beginners because the sound of the musical instruments is soothing and not too distracting. At the same time, it acts as white noise which blocks outside noise

Natural sounds of waves, water falling, droplets, birds chirping etc. is very peaceful. The fact that it is nature inspired makes the mind and body more alert and helps in the focusing part way better

Another important thing is also about the place. Make sure you start meditating in a room which is nice and warm. You do not want any major discomforts and also make sure no one will disturb you. Avoid phone, doorbells etc. and dedicate this time to just your mind, body and soul!

Well, the next question is how to play the music. Today everything from a CD player to your phone to an IPOD is available to all of us. Just make sure it is not playing loudly or directly in your ears - this can be distracting and it is also not a very healthy habit
Let the "songs" be music to your ears - so much so that it brings peace and positivity to your heart and fills you up with alertness, optimism and energy. Positive energy always helps in the overall development of your personality and thus meditation is probably one of the best ways to develop yourselves mentally, physically and spiritually!
