Antivirus software plays an important role in protecting everyone personal computers.
Where would we be without antivirus software? Because of the malicious Trojan viruses increase every year, software developers have been in the lab coming up with new ways to block these virtual bugs and give PC users a peace of mind.
The misconception is that antivirus software is the only thing that can protect one's personal computer.
The truth is the actual user has just as much control in protecting his or her computer as the antivirus software does.
The user has the ability to click on website and pop ups that can destroy one's computer.
Understanding the various types of viruses and what they do can at least put your mind at rest and preempt any strikers out there.
Overwriting viruses are malicious malware that has the ability to overwrite and ultimately delete many of the contents on a computer (sometimes all of the contents on a computer).
The good news if users act quickly, they can recover those deleted files and restore their computer back to good health.
The other good news is this form tends to be rare these days.
Ransonware Trojans plant encrypted files on the infected system, and then hold the computer hostage in exchange for money of something of value.
Most recently, we've seen this even with security systems and televisions that are connected through the internet but controlled though a user from another location.
Password Stealers are Trojans that collects and take login credentials for networks, FTP, systems, email, games, and also ecommerce and banking websites.
In today's world, banks heavily market their internet security apparatus in order to attract new customers because customers know how dangerous PC banking can be these days without the right antivirus software protection.
Rootkits, another form of Trojan viruses, give hackers complete access to a personal computer.
The hackers will typically hide the files, folders, registry edits, and other important components it uses.
The rootkit also hides other malicious files that's bundled with it.
The Storm Worm is an example that spread via email and would hide itself as news.
Once you clicked on it, it was game over for your computer.
Backdoors furnish stealth access to infected systems.
These are still similar to Ransomware and Rootkits.
This is very similar to having a virtual body sitting at your keyword, controlling your PC while you can't do anything about it.
To add more salt to wound, the hacker can even upload more malware and malicious viruses to your computer.
OK, the intention was not to scare you but to inform you of all of the various viruses out there in the world.
These are the main ones that are worth knowing.
There are still antivirus software out there that can protect pc's from many of these viruses.
The key is not to click on anything you're not familiar with on the internet.
Always air on the side of caution and you'll be fine.
However, having good internet security software is always a good backup because it will protect you from pop ups which is the initial step in click on one of these malicious viruses.
