With millions of viruses, spyware, and malware programs running rampant on the internet, it's no wonder so many people have a computer that is infected with some sort of malicious software.
The internet can be a pretty harsh place nowadays, but there is hope.
Protecting your PC does not have to be difficult or expensive.
In fact, the tips and tools I will show you how to use in this article are 100% free and are very simple to use.
There are three critical components that must be taken into account in order to remove malware from your PC and keep it off.
The first piece is a malware removal too.
This is obviously necessary if your PC is already infected.
The one I recommend the most is called Malwarebytes.
All you have to do is download the free version from their website, update the software, and then run a Quick Scan.
Once its done with the scan, let the software remove all threats, and reboot if it asks you to.
This should take care of the worst of your spyware problems and get you up and running in a good state.
The next piece is your real-time protection software.
One of the better pieces of software at the time of this writing is actually made by Microsoft (yea I know it's hard to believe) and it's called Microsoft Security Essentials.
It's also completely free, and it's downloadable from Microsoft's website.
Download the software, and install it on your PC, and tell it to do a quick scan.
If Malwarebytes missed anything, this will find it and remove it.
Once it's done with it's scan, it will continue to run in the background and proactively protect your computer against malicious software.
The last and most critical piece is one that is very often overlooked: Updates.
It is essential that you use the Automatic Updates feature built in to Windows to keep it up to date.
Otherwise hackers can use unpatched vulnerabilities in your computer to infect it.
Make sure you also obtain updates for any internet-facing software you are using, like web browsers, instant messaging programs, and especially Adobe Flash and Acrobat.
And that's all there is to it.
