‘Cankle’ is a word which has been created to describe an ankle next to a calf of the same width. There is little definition in the area as both joints look like they mould into the one.

In an increasingly body conscious society people are becoming increasingly worried about having crankles and are seeking ways to prevent and cure the problem.

Although a person’s genes can determine their shape and where they retain stored energy and body fat you can try and reduce the ‘cankle’ affect One common misconception is that cankles are a result of a person having high percentage of fat in their bodies. This may be the cause in many instances but not all.

Other cause can be poor circulation, and also fluid retention. As swollen and heavy ankles become an increasingly talked about problem for men and women one of the factors recognised as a main cause has been poor circulation.

The heart is constantly pumping blood through vessels in the body. People with poor circulation can find that when they stand all day their body can have problems in circulating the blood back up from the feet area. Therefore ankles and feet can become bloated and may be uncomfortable.

To combat the ‘cankle’ affect caused by poor circulation you should take measures to improve the flow of blood around the foot area. Hot and cold treatments are particularly popular as they are free and are easy to exercise.

At home in your shower you can use hot and cold intervals to help blood rush back through the vessels into your vital organs and away from your feet. Another method of improving poor circulation in your feet and ankles is simply by raising your feet above your heart. This is a very effective way of allowing the heart to pump this blood back around the body. Exercise and diet are also recommended safe and trusted methods of loosing weight and toning the ankle and calf areas to eliminate the problem.
