How Do You Stop Micro-Managing It All?
I never quite understood what micro-managing was.
Well, I always thought that it was telling another person to do this and do that.
And that I certainly would never do that because, well, I don't do details...
I am a big picture person after all.
The truth is that different people micro-manage differently.
Many of us, in fact have some aspect of perfectionism because we all have to learn to deal with uncertainty.
And, when we do, we often look for ways to control our environment.
Eliminate the uncertainty is the rule of the day in most cases...
and control is the way in which we try to eliminate the uncertainty that we are faced with.
The key point is this: if you are controlling, you are micro-managing something! That doesn't mean that you shouldn't be as the trick will be to decide if what you are managing and who you are managing actually requires your assistance in the first place.
So the better question is how do you manage through uncertainty? After all it is uncertainty that is life itself and whether we like it or not, the reality is that we do not know everything (no matter how much we try to convince ourselves that we do!) In fact, my version of micro-managing was to capture as much of the big picture as possible, piece it all together, and then doll out what each person should do.
Then of course, when someone got outside my view of the "big picture", I would become agitated or frustrated that the person didn't get what I thought it was all about.
The person that micro-manages detail after detail simply throws a hammer down when the other people involved do not process each detail at the same level of precision as they would have.
Either way, you can see one person is trying to command and control the situation according to their view of the way things are.
So with all the unknowns in life and the ensuing controlling behavior, how do you stop micro-managing the work that you are responsible for? Whether you are a big picture perfectionist or a small picture perfectionist, you are concentrating on what's wrong or missing rather than what is working.
With Universal Law, the natural way the world works is to be grateful for what is working.
Then, as you start to notice more of the good, pay attention to it, and expect it to be there, the more you will receive the good that you seek into your career and your life.
This is the Law of Attraction that works whether you are concentrating on the good you seek or the bad that you don't want.
In other words, you reap what you sow.
Focus on sowing good thoughts by being grateful for the good in each and every situation.
From a big picture perspective, it is like the story of when a group of people are blind-folded and are asked to describe the elephant.
The person that is touching its trunk says that an elephant is long and thin, the person that is touching the elephants belly says that it is full and round, while the person touching the elephants tail describes the tail.
Individually each person's view is only of a small portion of the elephant.
Collectively and working together, we all have a much larger view of the elephant.
But still there is much more to discover about the elephant and that is from a broader view that only the Universe can see.
The source of life (God is my personal belief) sees all and knows all.
When we truly get that 1) each person simply sees a various aspect of a circumstance and 2) there is a much bigger view that human eyes cannot see (as it is with all 5 of the human senses), then we can open our minds up to a great connection with others and with the source of life.
So, it is in the creative opening of our minds to potential beyond our current understanding and the willingness to recognize that unknowns are inherent for all of us, that we can release our desire to control and receive the answers that will free us here and now...
for more fun than you ever imagined!
