How to Remove Water Stains From a Cloth
- 1). Prepare the cloth. Place a light colored towel on your ironing board. Turn the cloth upside down onto the towel. Make sure the water spot is facing downward on the towel. Dampen a separate cloth or sponge with water. Blot the entire stained area with the sponge until it is thoroughly dampened.
- 2). Iron the cloth. Set the iron on a setting that is safe and appropriate for the type of material your cloth is made of before ironing. Iron the spot until it dries. Remove the cloth, and move the towel so that only a dry portion is resting on top of the ironing board. Replace the cloth onto the towel. Again dampen the stained area with water and iron dry. Repeat this process up to three times to remove the water stain.
- 3). Use a steamer. Oftentimes a stubborn water stain will refuse to budge. If you have access to a powerful steamer, however, it can do the trick. Blast the stained area with a puff of steam. Repeat this process until the stain disappears from the cloth. Allow the cloth to air dry.
- 4). When all else fails, try outside-the-box methods. For instance, directly rub the stain on the cloth with the back of a spoon. Another time honored remedy is to rub the affected area with muslin, and iron by placing a light colored pillow case between the cloth and the iron.
