The Rice Test vs The High Five System = Wishes vs Reality
A long time ago, I really did think patients were joking when they told me they found a "rice test" on the Internet and it would help them determine their implant size! But now, it's gone so far and gotten so much attention that they actually have a table showing that a certain measurement of rice, equals a certain amount of cc's! For example, the table says that 1 cup of rice is equivalent to 236 cc's! Really?!? I wonder how many socks it takes to equal 300 cc's if I stuff them in my bra?
It's ok to stuff something in a bra to get an idea - rice, sizers, socks etc, but remeber, FABRIC can do anything - stretch to all kinds of new places, but your skin envelope may not do the same thing. And another important thing to remember is that your end result is not just CC's - - it's CC's plus the amount of breast tissue you are putting over it.
Because these types of decision making tools are fairly subjective and can be way off base what can actually be done surgically, we try to help our patients think in terms of their own measurements and body limitations and body qualities. We use The High Five System of Measurement (developed and published by breast augmentation dallas surgeon Dr. John Tebbetts) - 5 basic measurements of your own breast that will tell you what the area of the empty space is and what it will take to simply fill it. Simply filling the empty space will yield a beautiful, natural appearing breast. Now, I understand that some goals are not to simply fill - I get that, but at least if you know what will safely fill it, then you and your ps can decide how much more you may elect to put in the breast understanding that you are pushing past what your body is calling for.
I would be happy to email you the High Five sheet - you can do this at home, but it is helpful to have someone measure for you and use a caliper and a soft measuring tape. You can email me at TTebbetts@plastic-surgery.com and we will get one right out to you.
It might be interesting to compare what you get with the Rice and what you get with your body's measurements.
Listening to your body and what it's limits are, will in the end, add safety and longevity to your breast augmentation result!
