On the Pokémon TV show, Ash Ketchum and his friends carry around an electronic version of the Pokédex that provides information when they encounter a Pokémon they've never seen before. When the player sees a Pokémon in the wild and battles it, the Pokémon's name and image are added to the Pokédex. However, it is only when the player captures a Pokémon that all its attributes, such as size, type and footprint, are added to the Pokédex. - Pokédex map

Height is shown with silhouettes depicting the Pokémon standing next to the player, and the weight is illustrated with a balance scale where the player's figure sits on one side and the Pokémon on the other.
