  On the Pokémon TV show, Ash Ketchum and his friends carry around an electronic version of the Pokédex that provides information when they encounter a Pokémon they've never seen before. The information in the Pokédex helps a Pokémon trainer determine which Pokémon and moves to use against another trainer in battle.
  
  

Pokémon Appearance and Attributes

  When the player sees a Pokémon in the wild and battles it, the Pokémon's name and image are added to the Pokédex. However, it is only when the player captures a Pokémon that all its attributes, such as size, type and footprint, are added to the Pokédex.

  The Pokédex entry for a particular Pokémon will include a map showing where the Pokémon prefers to live. Some prefer swamps or water, others grassland or caves. This aids the player in locating a Pokémon he wants to catch.

  Every Pokémon makes a different sound. The Pokédex includes a recording of the Pokémon's cry for the player to listen to.
  
  

Pokémon Size

  In the Pokédex, a Pokémon's height and weight are noted numerically, but also through pictures. Height is shown with silhouettes depicting the Pokémon standing next to the player, and the weight is illustrated with a balance scale where the player's figure sits on one side and the Pokémon on the other.
