Finding Tax Help

Each year many Americans work hard to be sure that they do not have to pay the government anything at tax time. Although this is just giving the government the chance to use their money with not interest, it is still easier than having to come up with money to pay for taxes each year. Besides, that tax refund that most Americans are working towards is just a nice bonus each year.

No matter how hard some people work not to owe taxes there are still times when they do. The tax debt that they owe to the government can be much larger than they are in a position to pay. Fortunately there are places and ways to get tax help when the bill comes due.

Getting Tax Help

1.Ask for relief if you filed a joint return and the tax debt is due to your spouse understating the tax debt then the IRS may relieve you of the debt.
2.Ask for more time filing an extension may give you the time that you need to get your finances in order so that you can pay the tax debt.
3.Offer in Compromise this allows you to make an offer to the IRS for less than you actually owe.
4.Request and installment agreement ask the IRS if you can make payments on your tax debt instead of paying it all in one lump sum.
5.Not currently collectible in some circumstance the IRS will agree to not try and collect on a tax debt for the next year to give you time to manage your finances and get into a position that will allow you to make payments.

Tax help is available. It is just a matter of discovering how much help you need. It is always a good idea to talk with a tax professional that you know you can trust when you find that you are in a position to need tax help.
