Obama Bows to Saudi King
Although he won the presidency by a wide margin, he is yet to prove himself to the American public and he embarrassed us in the G20 summit in London.
All was well to begin with and Obama was doing a good job meeting world leaders.
Then, he came into contact with the King of Saudi Arabia and instead of a customary handshake, like most world leaders and past American leaders do, President Barack Obama bowed down to the king.
He stood there and bowed completely from the waist up.
Now many liberals may think that this is a non-issue, but one needs to look at the history between the two countries and the ramifications of such a move.
First of all, American presidents bow down to no one.
Bowing is a symbolic gesture that says "you are better than me".
Now while President Obama may think that, when he is representing the United States of America, he represents all of its citizens and he had no right to represent us that way.
In the past 30 years, Saudi Arabia has made billions of dollars in trade deals with the United States.
They have also offered millions of dollars in scholarships to Saudi students coming to the USA.
Yet, we bow down to them? Have past leaders done that? No.
Have past leaders been accused of being disrespectful to the Saudi King? No.
Yet, Obama felt the need to do so.
This is not an exercise in respect, this is an exercise in embarrassment and President Obama has succeeded in embarrassing us in front of the world yet again.
