Altering a Euro Sham to Fit a Standard Pillow
- 1). Turn the euro sham inside out through the envelope style opening in the back of the sham. Lay the sham out on a flat surface with the back facing upward. Smooth the edges so the sham isn’t bunched. Rotate the sham so the envelope opening runs vertically in front of you.
- 2). Measure down from the top seam line by 2.5 inches at both sides and at the center of the sham. Make a small tick mark at the sides and middle as well.
- 3). Align a yard stick or rotary ruler to run horizontally across the width of the sham that touches each of the three top tick marks. Draw a horizontal line across the sham using the ruler as a guide. Repeat this step with the bottom three marks to make a second line.
- 4). Pin the front and back layers together along the lines every 4 to 6 inches to keep the surface of the sham smooth. Sew along the drawn lines and remove the pins as you sew.
- 5). Turn the sham right side out and put the standard pillow inside. If the pillow seems too loose, redraw the bottom line 1/2 inch above the currently sewn line. If the pillow seems too snug, use a seam ripper to remove the top drawn line of stitching. Raise the line by 1/2 inch and resew.
- 6). Turn the sham inside out again after you're satisfied with how the pillow holds inside the sham. Cut off the excess fabric at the top and bottom 1/2 inch out from your new seams. Turn the sham right side out and insert your standard pillow.
