Classroom Discussions & Activities About Child Abuse
- Have students create a slogan to fight against child abuse. Children will design their posters to complement their new slogans. Display the artwork in the school hallway for other children to see.
- Invite a police officer, nurse, and/or doctor to discuss crime prevention. Allow children to ask questions and interview the panel. Follow up by asking children to share one new thing that they learned during the group discussion.
- Have an open discuss with the class about who they can talk to about possible abuse in their lives. Explain how the the concept of good touches (those that make you feel happy and safe) and bad touches (those that make you uncomfortable, sad or hurt). Prompt children to brainstorm people they could go to if they need to report bad touches. Examples may include teachers, doctors, principals, police officers, a neighbor, grandparents, etc.
- Display photos of children wearing swimsuits. Explain to children that the areas covered by the swimsuit are private and off limits to inappropriate touching. Reiterate good touch/bad touch and remind the class of the people they can contact should such an event occur.
