How to Cap Off a PVC Drainpipe in a Sink Base
- 1). Place a tape measure on the top opening of the sink pipe and measure the diameter for the rubber pipe cap you will need. These caps, available at plumbing supply and home improvement stores, are black with a wire band.
- 2). Locate the connector on the wire band, which consists of a screw. Insert a flat head screwdriver into the slot on the screw and turn it counterclockwise to loosen it until the top overlapping band piece slides freely.
- 3). Turn the cap so that the concave side of the rubber portion faces the top of the sink pipe. Slide it down as far as possible on top of the pipe.
- 4). Grasp the top overlapping portion of the metal band and pull it through the connector until it is firmly around the outside perimeter of the sink pipe.
- 5). Insert the flat head screwdriver back into the slot on the screw and turn it clockwise until it is secure.
