How to Remove Cat Urine from Fabric or Carpet
- 1). Rinse the stained fabric under cool water to dilute and remove the excess urine. This works best if the urine stain is fresh.
- 2). Apply a pre-wash stain remover directly to the stain.
- 3). Wash the urine-stained fabric using an enzymatic laundry detergent to neutralize the urine odor. Air dry the fabric.
- 1). Remove as much fresh urine as possible from the carpet using paper towels. Place paper towels on top of the stain and step on them to absorb the most urine.
- 2). Mix together 50 percent water and 50 percent vinegar. Pour the solution onto the area liberally and blot using paper towels until the stain is almost dry.
- 3). Sprinkle the stain with a handful of baking soda. Mix 1/4 cup of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and a teaspoon of liquid dish soap and pour the mixture on top of the baking soda. Work the solution into the carpet using your fingers or a soft bristle scrubbing brush. Wear rubber gloves if you do this by hand. Let the solution dry for approximately 12 hours, then vacuum the residue from the stain.
- 4). Spray the area with an enzymatic cleaner if the odor remains. Repeat the steps if the urine stain remains.
