How to Redo a Silverware Box
- 1). Clean the silverware box. Dampen a cloth and dip it into baking soda. Wipe down the outside of the box. Then, wipe again with a clean, damp towel. Allow to dry before moving on.
- 2). Cover work area with newspaper. Place the silverware box on the newspaper. Use a fine-grit sandpaper to sand the outside smooth. Wipe away any excess dust.
- 3). Cut out pictures or fabric to cover the silverware box. Use a measuring tape to measure the box before cutting.
- 4). Coat one section of the outside of the box with decoupage glue. Place the pictures or fabric over the glue working from left to right to prevent air bubbles. Then, move onto another section. Once you are done, paint over it with another coat of decoupage glue.
- 5). Prime the box for painting. You want to paint the box, prime it instead of applying artwork and glue. Sand the box again after the primer dries; then, add a coat or two of interior, water-based paint.
- 6). Allow the silverware box to dry before using.
