Living Is a Dorm Is Not Like Living at Home

Nothing brings excitement to a young adult like the idea of going off to college.
It is their first chance to be on their own.
However, most have some misgivings about this big change.
With this move comes the added responsibility of making sure you get fed, do your own laundry, and taking any needed medications.
For all of your previous life, Mom and Dad have been guiding you and making sure those things are done.
Living is a dorm is not like living at home.
You have to get everything you need into one small room.
You are not in a house where you can spread things around.
When packing you have to make wise choices.
You have to leave some things at home.
Make the most of the room you have with stackable boxes and organizers that you can hang on the walls to hold things like shoes, hats and gloves.
You will not have the space you had in your own dresser.
Be prepared for that.
Don't forget a desk lamp.
There will be plenty of late nights studying at your desk.
Your showers and bathroom will probably be down the hallway.
You will need to have a container for all of your toiletry needs.
Make sure it is waterproof and will stand up to everyday use.
Make sure your toiletry set has all of your possible needs.
You have to be able to take anything you would need down the hallway.
You can't borrow it from your parent's bathroom or your little sister's room.
You have to have packed your shampoo, conditioner, brush, tweezers, and razors.
You need to also have over the counter medications on hand for minor illnesses and stomach upsets.
You have to eat when they serve you in college.
The cafeteria will be open for all meals only at certain times.
You will want to pack snack food for when you get hungry and the cafeteria is not open.
