Making Moving Day A Little Easier

Whether youre hiring movers or getting help from friends, moving is one of the most time-consuming things a person can do. Packing everything a person owns, often accumulated over years, presents a number of difficulties and possible complications. Thankfully, there are ways to make the process go a little smoother, and it all starts with packing.
Lighten the Load
The first step of a move isnt actually packing up, but choosing what you want to pack. This is a great time to go through your wardrobe and get rid of clothes you dont want, and go through the house selecting the knickknacks that dont fit the dcor of your new home. These can be sold at the ever-familiar moving sale, donated to charities or thrift shops, or handed down to friends and family. The fewer boxes you have to pack, the better. If youre relocating to a much smaller place, looking into long-term storage options may be best.
Heavy Boxes
One of the biggest space hogs in any home is the book collection, which makes it one of the hardest things to relocate during a move. While in past years the best solution might have been a moving sale or donations to the local thrift store, one of the best ways to clean up the shelves today is to sell books online. This opens up the books to a broader audience, and the makes sure they end up somewhere theyre wanted. It should be noted that if you opt to sell books online over the other choices, its best to put them up for sale at least a month before moving day.
Pack Smarter
After you sell books online and youve trimmed down the load you have to pack, and now youre ready to actually start boxing things up to go. Regardless of whos doing the lifting, one of the best things to smooth a move and avoid injury in the process is to go against everything your mom told you growing up. Whatever you do, do not put all the books in one box, all the clothes in another, all the dishes and silverware in another. Pack by room, not by object type, and keep the weight of your belongings in mind during the packing process. Splitting up the heavier items across several boxes will make the loading process faster, safer, and packing according to room will make unpacking much quicker. Youll have your new place looking like home in no time.
