Dog kennel Plans - How Anyone Can Build a Dog Kennel for your Pooch
She was pretty mad with me though when I brought home an old stray dog a few months ago. I have to admit it did smell pretty bad and seemed to have no idea that the house was not his bathroom!
She made it very clear that if we going to keep this poor old mutt it would have o live outside. Hey, I thought another reason to use the book I had bought a while back, so I looked through the 12,000 plans and sure enough there were plans on how to build a dog kennel, in fact there were a few options to choose from. The one I picked out came with a dog run as well.
The Important things to remember when building your doghouse are:
*The kennel needs to be comfortable for your pet.
*You need to build it with materials that will survive harsh environments.
*This could mean a specially treated wood with chemicals that might be bad for your dog, especially if he likes to chew. So be careful and check this out.
*The frame and other portions that the dog does not have access to can be build with this pressure treated lumber, but you can either use a composite building material or a type of wood like cedar that holds up to the elements and will not rot.
*Choose a set of plans that allow your dog to enjoy the sun but also be able to get out of it as well, and be sure it has a lot of cross ventilation.
*Provide a sheltered area that you can line with straw, carpet or an old blanket if you live in a cold climate.
*If your dog will be couped up for long periods of time be sure the kennel is big enough. If your pooch is penned in it will get bored and pick up bad habits(like chewing), but more importantly it is unhealthy for him(her) as well.
