The blood flow in veins becomes restricted due to the valves that open and close to allow blood flow stop working properly, and do not allow an even blood flow. This then results in the enlargement of the problem veins, which can lead to pooling of the blood because it is not flowing to where it should be. This then leads to the veins becoming visible on the surface of the skin and these are known as spider or varicose veins.

Varicose veins are usually found within the thighs and legs, as this is where most pressure is placed upon the veins and can damage them. Varicose veins can be brought on by a number of reasons including pregnancy, obesity or just general health. People in such professions as, hospitality, healthcare and hairdressing, tend to be the most common sufferers as they are usually standing for a prolonged periods of time.

Some of the symptoms are itching, burning, swelling, bleeding and aching. This can all cause a great deal of discomfort for you, which nobody wants. There are 2 main treatments for the removal of varicose veins, these are Sclerotherapy and Laser removal.

Sclerotherapy is where a liquid is injected into your vein that causes them to shrink. After time this allows the vein to collapse and be absorbed back into the body completely. Sclerotherapy is usually advised as a treatment for people with larger veins that are causing a problem.

Laser treatment is used to pinpoint the problem vein more accurately and allow for a better result. Using pulsing beams of light the laser collapses the vein allowing it to be absorbed back into the body. Laser treatment is generally used for smaller problem veins as it is more accurate and can target them more effectively.
