    • 1). Put on rubber gloves to prevent your hands from contaminating the sampling.

    • 2). Remove the lid from the Petri dish.

    • 3). Pour the mold medium into the Petri dish. Replace the lid and swirl the dish so that the medium covers the entire bottom. Let the medium harden for one hour.

    • 4). Tear a hole in an inside wall of your house where you suspect the mold may be located. Use a hammer to make the initial hole and a crowbar to widen the hole.

    • 5). Place the Petri dish deep inside the wall on a steady beam. Let it sit there for one hour.

    • 6). Put the lid back on the dish and let it sit for 48 hours. Check the Petri dish for visible mold growth. If there isn't any let it sit for another 24 hours and check. If you still see no growth let it sit for another 24 hours and check it again. If you see visible mold growth, seal the Petri dish with electrical tape and mail it back to the lab for testing.
