How to Clean Grout Haze on Tile
- 1). Pour carbonated water across the surface 12 to 24 hours after the grout has begun to cure to try to dislodge the grout haze at the surface level. If dealing with a porous surface, this should also help dislodge any grout stuck in pores below the surface level. Wait 10 minutes and then try to wipe away the grout haze with sponges or lint-free microfiber cloths.
- 2). Scrub at the surface of the wet tile(s) with a non-abrasive scrubbing pad or soft-bristled nylon brush using medium pressure to dislodge any residual haze.
- 3). Rinse the tiled area with more carbonated water, then wipe or blot it with clean cloths until you have removed most of the excess moisture and can see whether any haze remains.
- 4). Repeat Step 2 if some haze remains. If dealing with hard-to-remove haze, blot the area with a solvent such as rubbing alcohol repeatedly before scrubbing or with a mildly acidic solution of 2 parts vinegar and 1 part tap water. Wait 10 minutes and then scrub.
- 5). Rinse the area thoroughly again with carbonated water and wipe and blot with clean cloths. If necessary, spray or wipe a commercial grout haze removal product formulated for a specific grout type or tile material onto any tiles that still have haze. Wait for the product to break down the grout as directed by the product manufacturer, wipe away the product, rinse the area thoroughly and wipe or blot dry with additional cloths.
