    Process

    • Depending on the type of cellphone or mobile device you use, you will hear some type of beeping or buzzing sound that indicates you have received a text message. You can then view the device's transmission screen and press any applicable keys or buttons to access the message. For longer messages, you may need to scroll down on your screen to read the message in its entirety. You can then reply to the message, delete it or save it in your message archives. You can also share the message by forwarding it on to others.

    Blocking Messages

    • There may be instances where you wish to block text messages from certain senders, such as from marketers who want to send you an advertising message. Depending on your phone's features, you may be able to block messages sent from preselected phone numbers. You may also be able to block messages sent from any sender for a specific period of time. However, you may not be able to send texts while the blocking feature is enabled.

    Printing Messages

    • In some cases, you may want to retrieve a hard copy of your text message to read at a later time or to keep it in a permanent paper filing system. Depending on the device, you may be able to forward the message to a computer that is attached to a printer. You can forward the message via an email address and then print out as many copies as you need.

    Text Abbreviations

    • To read and understand text messages effectively, you will need to become familiar with the numerous abbreviations use to save time and space. Commonly used abbreviations include "LOL" for "laughing out loud," meaning the sender found something to be amusing. If you see "BFF," it means the sender is saying the two of you are "best friends forever." "CTN" means the sender is pressed for time or in a sensitive location and therefore "can't talk now." "MMB" means that the sender wants you to "message me back."
