    • 1). Relieve the pressure on the grease gun by extending the T-handle plunger. The T-handle plunger is located at the bottom of the grease gun and is used to facilitate replacement of the grease cartridge. Relieving the pressure in the grease gun makes the gun safe for hand-tightening the grease coupler.

    • 2). Wipe the hose and coupler clean with a shop rag. Remove all dirt and grease along the entire length of the hose and coupler. Turn the rag over several times to prevent loading the rag with grease and wiping it back onto the hose and coupler.

    • 3). Apply Teflon tape to the pipe-threads located on the grease gun fitting. A small amount of Teflon will help seal against leaks without making it difficult to thread the coupler onto the threads.

    • 4). Start the coupler onto the threads by turning the coupler in a clockwise direction. When the coupler starts onto the threads, grasp the hose with one hand and the coupler with the other. Use a clean shop rag in each hand to improve the grip on both the hose and coupling.

    • 5). Tighten the coupling by hand using the shop rags for extra grip until the grease coupler is tight.
