Face Lift - Find Out the Basic Facts

A face lift is known for allowing patients to avoid the telltale signs of aging, at least when it comes to the facial area.
If you are interested in what this procedure can do for you, knowing the basics is a must.
You will likely find out more details at the consultation with your doctor, but before you even consider this treatment, you should have some understanding of it.
The most important component of a face lift is whether it will help you.
The answer is that if you have facial sagging, deep creases around the eyes or mouth, jowls, or the appearance of a double chin, you can most likely benefit from this surgery.
People of nearly any age and any sex can be good candidates for it, as long as they have realistic expectations and have reasonably good health.
Your doctor should let you know after the initial consultation.
Before the surgery, your doctor will want to know about any medications you are on.
You will be requested to stop taking aspirin, blood thinners, most herbal pills, and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Of course, you should let your general practitioner know that you need to stop these drugs first so that you can get a possible alternative.
Additionally, most doctors will not perform a facelift on someone who smokes, so you will need to stop this habit about a month before the surgery, and should not resume for at least a month afterward.
This is because smoking prevents proper blood flow throughout the body, which can result in necrosis, or skin death.
You can expect the facelift to take up to four hours, and you should see the results you are looking for within two months.
You will probably see a lot of swelling and bruising the first few days, but it should gradually decrease for the next few weeks.
Most swelling should be gone after about six weeks, but most people are able to resume their regular life after about a week of recovery.
If you have a particular event that you want to look good for, such as a reunion, you should make sure to get the facelift at least three months in advance.
This will give you time to heal and get the results you want.
You can then expect to look younger than usual, without the sagging and skin creases that are so typical of the aging process.
