Scene Makeup Styles
- Snowy Gothic face
Gothic makeup has largely moved on from the chalky white days of the early scene, although some still use whiteface. Instead, the new look is more multi-cultural, with most of the emphasis on the lips and eyes. The face should still be as flawless and matte as possible, with a medium-to-high coverage foundation combined with concealer for problem areas. For the eye, use smoky shades like black and gray in the crease; for emphasis, daub a little under the lower lash line with a thin, slanted brush. Use a liquid liner followed by two coats of rich black mascara. For the lips, blood or true red is the color of the scene; either a gloss or matte lipstick will do. Make sure to line lips first to avoid feathering. - Rockabilly retro makeup has much in common with Gothic, with its flawless skin and matte emphasis. To get an authentic old-school look, it's important to remember that colors were limited in the past; stick to the most basic of palettes for color options. All cosmetics should be matte. For the cheeks, a stain product like BeneTint from Benefit Cosmetics will add a suitable wash of tint. Sweep a basic skin-tone color as a starter shade on the eye, and follow with a touch of brown in the crease. Tweeze the eyebrow--thin was the look, so go as skinny as possible. Darken the brown a bit with an eyebrow palette or kohl eyeliner pencil. Add a set of false eyelashes, with emphasis on longer fibers at the outer edge, then finish with mascara. Last, use a matte lipstick and dust with a bit of translucent powder to set.
- Hipster girl makeup
Often, hipsters use a mod sort of look with some fashionable touches. The lip is often pale, or there may be some adventurous shade like purple or orange. Eyes are often smoky and shadowed, while skin is dewy and simple. Eyebrows can be a little unkempt, and freckles are considered fine. The key to hipster makeup is to never look like one is trying too hard; instead, it's best to use a light hand on most of the face. For the absolute simplest hipster look, try a colored eyeliner coupled with a contrasting mascara. Finish the face with a barely-there lip gloss after coloring in the lip with nude liner.
