How to Care for a Weave Before Swimming
- 1). Rinse your hair in warm water and coat it with a conditioner. This will prevent your hair from absorbing chlorine from a public pool or salt from the ocean.
- 2). Gently comb through your conditioned hair with your fingers to smooth out any knots.
- 3). Divide your hair into two to four sections. If your hair is medium in length and thickness, two sections should be fine. If it is very long or thick, three or four sections may be appropriate.
- 4). Braid each section of hair and tie it off with a hair tie.
- 5). Pin each braid to your scalp using a few bobby pins.
- 6). Cover your hair with a swim cap. This will keep most of the water off your tresses. If any water does seep in, the conditioner and braids will prevent it from damaging your weave.
- 7). Wash your hair with shampoo immediately after you are finished swimming. If you cannot wash it until later, rinse it with warm water to remove any chemicals or salt.
