How to Make a Long Chopstick
- 1). Put on eye protection, and cut out a block of wood using a band saw.
- 2). Trace an outline of a long chopstick on the wood block, using a pencil. As this is a custom project, it can be as large as you wish.
- 3). Gouge or cut out a small section to make an inlay using a gouge or wood carving knife. Then glue the piece of contrasting wood into the gouge. This is optional and can be skipped.
- 4). Carve out the rough template from the block of wood, following the pencil lines, using a wood carving knife. Continue until you're near the final diameter and length, which will take a significant amount of time and labor.
- 5). Shape the long chopstick with 40-grit sandpaper, then refine the shape using 80-grit sandpaper. Smooth the long chopstick with 220-grit sandpaper first, then 400-grit sandpaper to remove all splinters.
- 6). Coat the long chopstick lightly with lacquer, using a sponge, and let dry for 24 to 48 hours -- or as long as directed by the manufacturer -- to finish making your custom chopstick.
