How to Calculate Christmas Lights for a Pine Tree

    • 1). Measure the height of the pine tree by starting with a tape measure at the base of the trunk and recording the number on the tape measure at the tip of the tree.

    • 2). Multiply the number that you recorded to be the height of the pine tree times 100. This is the number of lights needed on the tree to make it look fully lit. For example, if the tree is 7 feet tall, then you would multiply 100 times 7, and find that the total number of lights needed on the tree is 700.

    • 3). Divide the number of lights needed on the tree by the number of lights available on the strings that you have. For example, if you have strings of 100 lights and you need 700 lights on the tree, then you would divide 700 by 100 to require a total of 7 strings of lights on the Christmas tree.
