• Pavement is also known as asphalt, and is made up of gravel or sand that is mixed with a tar-like substance that is derived from leftover petroleum products. This material is commonly used for roads, streets and highways, and as a blacktop surface for many public playgrounds.
  
  

Considerations

• When comparing pavement and concrete driveways, keep in mind that asphalt is designed to withstand freezing and thawing better than concrete. Asphalt driveways also have the ability to expand and are less prone to crack. Concrete driveways have the ability to hold up under various weather conditions and weight loads, but they will need proper finishing, sealers, and care in order to last. Pavement driveways are low maintenance in comparison.
