Fairy Idol - Guide Review
Fairy Idol is a one hour special of Nickelodeon's hit TV series The Fairly OddParents. The show has long been Nickelodeon's second ranked show next to Sponge Bob, and is popular among teens and adults as well as kids due to the witty writing and cultural spoofs.
In Fairy Idol, a cultural spoof on the popular program American Idol, Norm the devious genie clones Timmy and tricks him into going off to have a great day with his best friend Chester.
According to Norm's deceitful plan, Timmy's clone treats Timmy's Godparents Cosmo and Wanda horribly, driving them to quite their jobs as Timmy's Fairy Godparents. Norm then heads off to Fairy World to enter the Fairy Idol competition. Open to any magical wish-granting creature, the winner of the competition will gain the esteem of being the next fairy godparent.
Timmy is heartbroken to realize what has happened, and he too heads to Fairy World to beg Cosmo and Wanda's forgiveness. Once there, he witnesses the talent competition and Cosmo's amazing performance (sung by American Idol contestant Diana DiGarmo), but everyone will have to pull together to stop Norm from winning in the end.
Fairy Idol entertains both kids and adults with a creative storyline and recognizable cultural spoofs. The idea of fairies and magical fairy worlds is fun in itself, but the use of the idea as a platform for satire adds an extra layer to appreciate and chuckle at.
Fairy Idol - Note to Parents
Kids will enjoy the humor in Fairy Idol, and the special does not resort to as much potty humor and possibly questionable phrases as the show usually does.
There are, however, instances of bad attitudes and disrespectful behavior as Timmy, and especially Timmy's clone, order the fairies to grant wishes and treat them meanly.
