The Average Car Insurance for a 19-Year-Old Male
- In 2010 the average cost of car insurance premiums was around $1,500 for males and females ages 18 to 25, according to CarInsurance.com. This does not indicate a particular trend in car insurance prices because the averages tend to fluctuate from year to year. Risk management makes auto insurance premiums a volatile market. In 2008, prices were $1,600 per year average. In 2009 they rose to $1,700 before dropping. Drops are associated with a lower number of claims and accidents, encouraging insurers to offer lower rates, among other factors.
- Car insurance for 19-year-olds is in line with teenage drivers who are 15, 16, 17 and 18 years old with slight discounts for 18 and older, according to the CarsDirect website. Averages for teenagers are much higher due to the high frequency of teen car accidents, especially serious accidents that result in injury or death. In 2011, teenage rates on average rose to around $2,500, CarInsurance.com reports. Teen rates can vary. too, however. In 2009 rates rose beyond $2,700, and in other years rates sunk periodically below $2,200. These rates can change based on the driving record that the male teen has.
- Averages depend on the type of car the 19-year male drives, premiums tend to range between $1,100 with all discounts possible applied and a clean driving record for several years to around $2,600 with an accident and a ticket, the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association reports. With one speeding ticket, rates can range from $1,200 with the most basic insurance to over $4,000 with some of the most expensive insurance, according to the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.
- A 19-year old male can complete various tasks to lower his car insurance payments. Choosing high deductibles will lower the premium payment if the insurance has different deductible options. Insurers also offer better rates to those with good grades and those that have some type of driver education. Being married and having children can also lower premium rates -- even for 19-year-old males.
