Do You Have to File Income Tax Forms?
- Anyone under 65 must file when earning at least $8,950 and file as single; $11,500 and file as the head of your household; or $17,900, are married and file on a joint tax return.
- People 65 and older earning $10,300 filing single; $12,850 filing as head of the household; and, $18,950 filing joint married or $20,000 filing married at the single status must file a return.
- Single dependents receiving $900 or more from special funds must file an income tax return. Those receiving under $5,450 from employment do not.
- If you work for yourself and made more than $400, you must file a return. Making money doing side jobs counts as income.
- Individuals not required to file may do so anyway to receive a refund of tax money withheld from their paycheck.
