• Since fragrances are protected as a trade secret, the makers of perfumes and colognes don't have to list ingredients on the label. Buyers don't know what's in the fragrances they're wearing. Ingredients could include allergens and toxic chemicals that a buyer would otherwise avoid. Some toxic chemicals included in fragrances include ethanol, benzyl alcohol and camphor. Chemicals like these could induce health problems, such as sinus issues, irritated skin and muscle pain.
  
  

Mood

• According to the Social Issues Research Center, middle-age men who wore cologne showed an improvement in mood. These men also reported feeling less tense, depressed, angry, confused and fatigued. Since these are emotions that tend to go hand-in-hand with a mid-life crisis, it can be argued that wearing appealing-scented colognes can ease the feelings that come along with a mid-life crisis. Perfumes used by women also had a positive effect: Women felt happier, which could ultimately make them more attractive to the opposite sex.

• According to the UK's Social Issues Research Centre, studies have shown there are certain scents shown to increase blood flow in the penis, which increases sex drive. Some research has suggested that the scent of cinnamon buns or lavender has this effect. The Smell and Taste Research Foundation in Chicago has said that scents like licorice, pumpkin pie, oriental spice, cola and donuts can also increase blood flow to the penis.

• Essential oils can be inhaled, applied to the skin or even ingested. Aromatherapy can help ease infections and diseases, and it can also help with relaxation or to boost energy. While it's not known exactly how aromatherapy works, some researchers believe that when particular molecules are inhaled, certain areas of the brain are affected. These areas may affect physical, mental or emotional health, resulting in a change in our bodies or minds.
