  If you plan to propose to the woman that you love while eating dinner, you may wish to surprise her with the proposal. Where you dine does not matter when proposing and surprising her. If you dine at a restaurant, you may wish to speak with the staff beforehand to ensure that you can propose exactly as you wish in their restaurant.
  
  

Freeze the Ring

• Freeze her engagement ring in an ice cube the day before you plan to propose. While eating dinner, slip the ice cube, with the ring frozen inside, into her drink when she isn't paying attention. If she does not notice the ice cube, ask her if there is something in her glass. Once she realizes what you have done, get down on one knee and propose to her.
  
  

Dessert

• Whether you dine at home or in a restaurant, wait for dessert to propose. Purchase a cake from the bakery beforehand. Have the bakery write, "Will you marry me?" on the cake. Place a ring holder on the cake, and place the ring on the ring holder. If dining in a restaurant, have a server deliver the cake after dinner. If dining at home, deliver the cake yourself after you have eaten dinner.
  
  

Fortune Cookie

• Ask the woman you love to marry you with a fortune cookie. Purchase a fortune cookie before you eat dinner and remove the preprinted fortune inside the cookie. Take your tweezers and gently pull the fortune from the cookie, being careful not to break the cookie. Insert your fortune ("Will you marry me?") with the tweezers. Give your girlfriend the fortune cookie once she has finished eating dinner.
  
  

Box of Chocolate

• Instead of proposing to your girlfriend with the engagement ring in a traditional box, place it in a box made from chocolate. You may purchase a small chocolate box at a fine chocolate store. Place her ring inside the chocolate box, and present it to her while eating dinner. She may eat the chocolate box for dessert if she wishes
  
  

Candlelight Dinner

• Instead of proposing to your girlfriend in a restaurant, create a romantic candlelight dinner at your home. Cook the dinner yourself, and set the dining room table. Place wine glasses and a bottle of chilled wine on the table. Place candles on the table and light them. While serving your girlfriend dinner, place your ring on a tray and serve it to her. Get down on your knees as you present the engagement ring.
