Paladin Leveling

Paladins were changed a lot with the introduction of Wrath. Most of these changes came to the retribution (damage) tree usually allowing for easier level with Paladins as this used to be very awkward at the lower levels (read:very boring). If you need some talent help in respect to leveling you've come to the right place.

Let's get INto the Paladin leveling. First of all we must come to agreement that the only viable choice is Retribution. Some people may go Holy as they like to heal instances, but it limits their soloing capability and ends up slowing you down significantly. Some may say Protection is great for leveling as it allows you to kill multiple mobs quickly. I don't support this at questing is the way to go when it comes to leveling and quests often include spread out mobs, non-killing objectives or simply caster/ranged mobs. As such you can easily find yourself leveling even slower than a Holy Spec, which yes I just absurb.

This brings us back to the Retribution Tree, I suggest you simply go all the way with Retribution and only skip the obvious nono talents like Eye for an Eye.

This tree has a lot of great talents for a leveler. As you can see I like spending a lot of points in the Retribution tree and only leave a few talents unused. One thing to mention is that you should skip Divine Purpose if you're playing on a non-PvP server as it becomes quite redundant. Something else to mention is that you shouldn't be picking up Improved Blessing of Might until later on as you won't have the mana to skip Blessing of Wisdom.

The reason the Retribution is so strong is that it is full of talents that help you level. You will find yourself gaining debuffs, movement speed buffs and new melee attacks.

Have a look at the Retribution tree and see if you can figure out which talents will grant you these bonuses whenever you judge:

Give a chance to reduce the target's attack power
Increase the target's chance to get critically hit
Restore your own mana
Have a high chance to critically hit with your judgement
Whenever you critically hit with your judgement you leave a damage over time effect on the target

As you can see there's some great synergy there for buffing up your Judgements. You will also be able to boost your Retribution aura to not only boost your damage and haste but to finally do some decent damage on attack.

On top of this you also get gimmicky talents like Repentance to take certain enemies out of the fight. Or Art of War which allows you to either instantly cast Exorcism or your Flash of Light heal when some of your abilities critically hit.

Once you get to play with Crusader Strike and Divine Storm the party really begins. Once you get these abilities you will truly be a Retribution Paladin and your enemies will melt by your holy powers (or maybe it's that big mace you just smashed their face in with!).

All in all it's a bit disappointing that the Paladin class gets forced into leveling with the Retribution tree, but what you get is a specialization that smashes through monsters like nobody's business. I guess part of this is also made up by being on a Player versus Player server and simply smashing enemy players to pieces.
