Gifts for Elderly Women
- Consider giving your elderly friend or relative a gift that will ease her physical difficulties. If she has poor eyesight, give her a phone with large numbers or a talking alarm clock, talking watch and talking scale. An arthritis sufferer might enjoy a set of card holders (for playing cards) or a "bed buddy" that can be warmed in the microwave to provide relief for aching joints. Or give something simple like a back scratcher, long-handled lotion applicator, neck or back pillow, or jar opener.
- Does the elderly woman on your gift list have a fondness for chocolate, for a certain flavor of ice cream or for a special tea? Foods that can be frozen make the best gifts; she can thaw them out just a little at a time. Or give her a gift card to her favorite restaurant, or a small gift basket of candy, cookies, pastries or fruit.
- Perhaps the most special gift you can give to an elderly woman is a gift of your time. Take her to her favorite restaurant, or take her shopping for a new dress or pair of shoes. Make her a special meal, and freeze leftovers so she has another meal to enjoy later. Spend an afternoon with her, organizing her photos and putting them in a new acid-free album. Help her pay bills or clean her house. Watch old movies together, or just sit and talk.
