Vinegar

• Vinegar, which is acidic, has been shown by scientific studies to kill around 80 percent of mold if it is applied directly to the surface. Adding 1 cup of vinegar to your laundry can eliminate any mold on your clothes. Use vinegar as a cleaning agent to remove mold from walls and floors, allowing the chemical to soak on the mold spot for a few hours to make sure that it kills everything. It also can be used in spray bottles and liberally applied to problem areas.
  
  

Bleach

• Bleach, which often is used for washing white clothing and as a disinfectant, contains a chemical known as sodium hypochlorite. Bleach is most effective at killing mold on solid, flat surfaces like metal, ceramic, granite or tile and will be ineffective if used to kill mold in carpets or on wood. When using bleach, dilute it with water first, creating a mixture of 1 part bleach to 3 parts water, as its corrosive nature can discolor furniture.
  
  

Peroxide

• Hydrogen peroxide is used as a disinfectant and is highly effective at killing mold on virtually any surface, whether it be carpet, dry wall, wood or tile. Dilute the peroxide with water, about half and half, and funnel it into a spray bottle. The peroxide will violently bubble when sprayed on mold, indicating that the chemical is going to work and killing it. When the bubbles stop, the mold will be killed and you will need to remove it and the peroxide from the problem area with normal cleaning.
  
  

Scrubbing

• No matter which chemical you use, you will need to scrub the dead mold off the infected area. Just because the mold itself is dead, the toxins still may be present, and more mold could grow quickly if the old spores are left to rot. Thoroughly clean the area after applying any mold killers.
