Can You Switch Contract Phone Numbers to Prepaid Phones With Verizon?
- Verizon offers daily and monthly prepaid plans. As of 2010, the daily plans range from $0.99 per day for unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling and $0.10 per minute up to $3.99 per day of usage for unlimited mobile-to-mobile, night and weekend and unlimited talk to any other carrier. The monthly plans range from $44.99 per month for 450 anytime minutes to $94.99 per month for unlimited talk and text.
- Prior to transferring a contract phone number to a prepaid number, the current contract must be terminated. Termination can be done by calling Verizon Customer Service at: 800-922-0204. Take note, contract termination will require a termination fee up to $350 (as of 2010).
- Once a prepaid phone has been purchased and the contract phone service has been terminated, users can then transfer the contract phone number to their prepaid phone number by contacting Verizon Customer Service or by visiting a Verizon Wireless retail location.
- Transferring a phone number from one phone to another can take up to 24 hours to complete. Once the transfer has been completed, Verizon will send the new cell phone a text message informing the user the phone can be used.
- Transferring a phone number from a non-Verizon contract phone service to a Verizon prepaid phone can be done. Verizon states that, as of 2010, there is no porting fee for transferring a non-Verizon number to a Verizon prepaid phone. Users also can transfer landline phone numbers to a Verizon prepaid phone; however, the porting time can take up to four days to complete.
