Democrats" Government Takeover of Health Care

CNN reported in the recent past that more than 41 states are now on board in an effort to protect their residents from the "unconstitutional and unfunded mandates in the Democrats' government takeover of health care".

Attorney Generals in more than fifteen states, including Pennsylvania, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington and more are attempting to directly challenge the mandates in court to see the bill scrapped permanently. The list of states and state government officials continues to grow.

The latest comes from the News and Observer reports:

* GOP to enter health fray: "Republicans have prepared bills for when the legislature returns May 12 that would exempt North Carolina citizens from the requirement that they buy insurance under the new health care law. It would also direct the attorney general to file suit.... Similar bills have been planned or introduced in 41 states, according to the American Legislative Exchange, a group that promotes limited government." (The News & Observer, 4/7/10)

In other arenas, two more states are joining the fray. It became apparent this week that Arizona and Nevada were to join the suit against the federal health care bill, and the rumor is that they will shortly be joined by Governor Pawlenty of Minnesota.

"The governors of Arizona and Nevada say their states will join 14 others suing the federal government over health care reform." (Associated Press, 4/7/10)

With all of this to contend with, does the healthcare reform bill, aptly nicknamed the Obamacare bill, have any real chance of going further? The truth is that it does. While the credibility of the Democrats has been weakened in some ways by their comments to the employers who stated that the new laws would injure them financially, this was given lie by the New York Times who stated:

"When major companies declared that a provision of the new health care law would hurt earnings, Democrats were skeptical. But after investigating, House Democrats have concluded that the companies were right to tell investors and the government about the expected adverse effects of the law on their financial results...." those things aside, the Obamacare initiative still seems to be gaining support from some unexpected corners. How this could be is an amazement to those of us who have worked in the health care fields, but it seems to be holding ground in most areas. States who have a wide assortment of residents currently without health care seem the most vulnerable to be taken in by the Obamacare reforms.

Likewise, residents who are without healthcare and who have not read the bill or portions of it seem to favor the bill. This does not hold true of many senior citizens, some of whom are up in arms over it. One A.A.R.P. meeting was nearly riotous when the seniors decided, against the advice of their A.A.R.P. advisors, to fight the Obama care plan.
